The L.A. County district attorney's office has filed charges against a 63-year-old man accused of striking his daughter's boyfriend on the head with a metal rod while he was asleep.
Levon Hovanesyan was charged Thursday with one felony count of attempted "willful, deliberate and premeditated" murder and one felony count of aggravated mayhem, according to a Los Angeles County Superior Court complaint.
He allegedly hit 33-year-old Glendale resident Mauricio Buendia on the head with a metal rod Tuesday morning while Buendia was in bed. The attack occurred in the Glendale apartment where Hovanesyan and his daughter live, according to police.
Buendia was taken to Glendale Memorial Hospital and released the following day, police said.
Officials said Hovanesyan walked into the Glendale Police Department Wednesday morning after the alleged attack to turn himself in, reportedly telling officers he may have killed Buendia.
His arraignment is scheduled May 31 in Burbank. He was being held in lieu of $1-million bail.
